From 31 October to 5 November, VSU hosted Doctor Margarete Walcher, member of the German-based “Hayastan” Association. The aim of her visit to VSU was to conduct beginner and middle level classes about cultural and geographical peculiarities of Germany with VSU students studying German as a foreign language.

The lessons conducted by Dr. Walcher stirred interest and enthusiasm among the students, even those who had no preliminary mastery of German but vigorously participated in the classes and expressed willingness to further study the language.

Dr. Walcher’s lessons were rich in various teaching methods and didactic materials: reading of German folk- and fairy-tales, discussion, presentation, video screening, map study, etc.

During her short stay, the guest succeeded in getting the students acquainted with German characteristic traits, customs and traditions, religion, monuments, and other peculiarities typical of German-speakers.

The “Hayastan” Association (https://hajastan-armenienhilfe.de/) has provided great support to both VSU and other institutions of Vanadzor (Vanadzor Orphanage, “Narek” children’s hospital) and for over 20 years, has been carrying on charity activities for the community of Vanadzor.

On 5 November, VSU Acting Rector Susanna Tumanyan welcomed the representatives of the Association, George Walcher (President), Margarete Walcher, Andreas Pfaff, and Victor Avetisyan. Mrs. Tumanyan expressed her gratitude to the guests and said that although as an Armenian, she felt sorrow for the necessity of our country, she was profoundly thankful for their dedicated work and support.
